11/12" : The sixteenth century was marked by the constant threat of Turkish incursions, as well as religious unrest. Medieval fortifications were then upgraded according to new principles of the Renaissance. In 1564, Graz became the capital of Austria from the inside, despite the danger posed by the Turkish invasions and the progress of the Reformation.
